Access to Mackay a Tuath is taken from the A897, which is classified as a Consultation Route for timber transport. From the public road, there is a shared forest access route, shown as A1-A2 on the sale plan, extending circa 12 km to the property. Maintenance operates on a ‘user basis’.
Both the shared forest road and the A897 have been successfully used for timber extraction from neighbouring woodlands, demonstrating the route’s suitability for commercial forestry operations.
Mackay a Tuath is a commercial conifer forest, originally established in the mid-1980s. The crop is predominantly composed of Sitka spruce and Lodgepole pine, with the latter intended to serve as a self-thinning nurse crop.
In 2022, the forest manager carried out timber measurements which indicated yield classes of up to 14 for the Sitka spruce, consistent with expectations for the area. Given the age of the crop, the forest holds a significant volume of timber, suitable for harvesting within the next 5 to 10 years.
The sporting rights are included in the sale. Red, Sika and Roe deer provide some exciting and varied stalking.
Mineral rights are included except as reserved by statute or in terms of the title.
The property will be sold with the benefit of, and subject to, all existing rights and burdens with the Titles.
