Up until a few years ago, the demand and supply cycle for upland livestock units was low and while some followed parents and grandparents into farming, many of the next generation sought careers elsewhere. As a result, existing farmers found it hard to retire. Three or four years on, the farming challenges may still exist but the forester is urgently seeking land on which to plant trees.
ALMOST 750 hectares of prime commercial forestry in the Scottish Borders has come to the market for offers over £14 million. Goldcrest Land & Forestry Group has launched the sale of the Ramsaygrain East Forests, which extend to 745 hectares and are available as a whole or in three lots.
GOLDCREST Land & Forestry Group was launched by a trio of well-known forestry specialists. Chartered Surveyors Jon Lambert, Fenning Welstead and Jock Galbraith, who between them have worked in forestry for a total of 70 years, have formed a new partnership operating throughout the UK.
